An extension of Step 1 (Describe What You Want).... It often helps to work in reverse with this one. Sometimes it can be hard for people to even figure out what they want, especially when they feel so completely bogged down in a job they dislike. If you begin by looking at what you DON'T want, it's often easier to start making that list and then slowly you can better articulate what you DO want.
